date = a year of marriage

In this poem you expericance/see how Holden goes through this date and how it translates to marriage today, and how everything looks alright but by the end of the marraige things turn for the worst. enjoy XD

Some of the things that are said
I really can’t stand - but just when you think they’re done

Damn stubborn girls – why don’t they understand?
That the things they want to do…aren’t fun
That they’re a royal pain in the ass

Phoebe

Phoebe... the relationship between Holden and Phoebe is really strong/ i think its one of the strongest relationships that Holden has with any family member. When Holden gets the record for Phoebe i think it shows that Holden is being nice, and thoughtful. And also he talks about how fond Phoebe is of him. Also i think that Holden has more of a connection because he seems to like younger kids/little kids. We see this when he sees the little boy humming...he become facinated. Then when he ties the little girls skates - it shows how caring he is towards the younger kids and wouldnt mind at all doing them a favor. Where we know Holden will do favors for other people like he did stradlater...but with the kids its a no doubt about it thing.
Though Phoebe to me has the greatest connection. Sally Hayes playes a big role also because she is the first person that Holden has actually opend up to besides us. The thing about Sally though is that she represents most of the things that Holden thinks are phonies. how she always says "Marvalous", and in the book she says grand a couple times too. And when Holden opens up to Sally - its like he is telling all the phonies (and or everything he considers phonie) off. Holden is sharing his true opinions here to what is representing the biggest phonie of them all. I think that this shows how Holden is growing in confronting his issues.
